Kohlrabi White Vienna
It might sound like something straight out of Game of Thrones, but Kohlrabi is actually a Roman veggie. In 800 A.D., the Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne ordered that it be grown in the Imperial gardens, and if that’s not a sign that you’ve made it in life, then we know nothing, Jon Snow.
White Vienna is easy to grow, resistant to drought and produces above-ground “bulbs”. Its cream-coloured flesh tastes like a mild broccoli with hints of apple, and once you’ve tried it, you’ll understand why ol’ Charlemagne was a fan. Grate raw into salads, whip into a stir-fry, or roast gently for a magnificent meal.
