Established over 100 years ago, Kirchhoffs is a household name in South Africa, and if you’ve never heard of us, we feel bad for your household. Back in 1896, rambling gardens filled with salad-y treats were the in thing – but today, humans tend to get their limp, tasteless greens from sad plastic packets. Cue the violins.

However, we believe that the tiniest patch of earth – or even a container or two – can be transformed into a wonderland of colourful veg, worthy of any 19th-century gardener’s approval. And it can be done with just a teensy bit of patience and literally no green thumbs.
